NY Would Own Intellectual Property in Senate AI Consortium Plan

New York would own the intellectual property rights to artificial intelligence research conducted with a taxpayer-funded supercomputer under a plan proposed by state senators in budget negotiations.

Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) proposed challenging California’s tech dominance by creating a $400 million research consortium with universities. The governor’s January budget proposal sought $250 million to supplement $150 million from private and higher-education sources.
