Utah has overhauled its approach to restricting teens on social media in response to tech industry litigation through two measures Gov. Spencer Cox (R) signed into law Wednesday.
The laws, which take effect Oct. 1, repeal many of the first-in-the-nation requirements enacted last year that would have required parental consent for youth on social media and given parents broad access to their children’s accounts. Those 2023 laws—which had yet to go into effect—already face two lawsuits over constitutional concerns.
