The GOP-controlled House Appropriations Committee cleared legislation to fund transportation and housing programs for the next fiscal year, including a controversial amendment blocking funds for developing a rule to require automakers to install drunk driving prevention technology.
The measure passed early Thursday in a 34 to 27 vote includes $28.3 billion to fund the Department of Transportation and $71.38 billion for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. President Donald Trump floated $26.6 billion and $73.5 billion, respectively, for the agencies in a budget request unveiled in April.
